Lions OC is.... Bevell?

Yesterday I wrote a article about who the Lions remaining Candidates were and to the surprise to me, not a single one of the guys I named got the job. Darrell Bevell is now the OC. Now, I am not the only person to be surprised, Bevell’s name actually was never linked to the Lions.

Bevell was out of football this past season, and before that he spent 7 seasons as the OC of Seattle. The more you look into it, this is not as surprising as everyone may think due to the fact that that Bevell runs an offense that Patricia wants. Ground and Pound.

Bevell isn’t a horrible hire its just an odd hire. He was very successful as a OC in Minn and Sea but he ran the ball +60% of the time with Lynch and AP. **Insert corny joke that is being rehashed about him not running the ball against NE in Super Bowl XLIX.

Here is why this doesn’t make sense. You are paying Stafford 27 million. Why bring in a guy who runs the ball that much? Also, if this is what Patricia wants then why are we paying a QB 27 million?Not only all those questions but do they not see that the whole NFL is changing to an air it out league but we are trying to turn the clock back and run a ground and pound offense.

One of the reasons Seattle was able to win games during the time he was in there was because they were able to spend a lot of money elsewhere with QB Wilson being on his rookie contract. If this is the blueprint for the Lions its just not going to happen.

Yes, I know that this will be different in 2019 for the Lions but I don’t see them being able to spend the money this off season on defense to get that much better to support the kind of offense Patricia and Bevell want.

Honestly, this hire is so confusing and it makes me question everything Patricia and Quinn are doing. Either they are planning on a long rebuild and have the Fords patience or they are planning something behind closed doors and lying about Stafford being the future and they are going to draft Russel Wilson 2.0 who is Kyler Murray and get rid of Stafford.
